Shavington-cum-Gresty Heritage Trail

Discover the stories that shaped our village

Shavington-cum-Gresty’s history stretches back almost 1,000 years. In the Domesday Book of 1086, the settlement Shavington was recorded as Santune, the earliest known written record of the village.

Our new Heritage Trails invite you to explore Shavington-cum-Gresty, discover some of the people and places that have shaped the community, and uncover stories that may have been hidden in plain sight.

Visit each heritage stop, read the history, answer the question and use the elimination clue to cross one candidate from your list.

By the end of the trail, only one name should remain.

The booklet includes:

  • The full trail map

The route is approximately 2 miles and takes around 1½–2 hours to complete. It is suitable for age 8 and upwards.

You can begin at any point on the map, although following the numbered route may make the walk easier.

 

Shavington-cum-Gresty Children’s Heritage Trail

Our shorter children’s trail is designed especially for younger explorers.

At each stop, children will find a numbered poster containing a hidden letter or number. Match it to the same numbered box on the trail sheet and collect all 16 characters to crack the secret code.

Along the way, children can discover fun facts and fascinating stories about Shavington’s past.

There is no set starting point, so families can begin anywhere along the route.

Every child who successfully completes the trail can collect a small Heritage Explorer reward from Shavington-cum-Gresty Village Hall, subject to availability.
